I Have Harry To Keep Me Warm at Night

I think it must be the stress from my class this week, but I've had an overwhelming feeling of disconnect. Superkate has left for RI, Airen is going off to psycho relationship land, my parents are so busy planning their trip to Ireland (The family decided to scatter my grandmother's ashes into the Atlantic, off the coast of Ireland) that when they see me, all they see is free kennel help, my friend high school buddy Pimm left today on his trip to Australia for the summer, and Genevieve? Well she's just being Genevieve. I spent Friday and Saturday night studying, and in between chapters I began to think about all the fun that was passing my by.

On the bright side, with everyone gone and my phone being rather quite these days, I have some time to catch up on my reading. July 15 is a very special day next month. Not only is it the day Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory comes to theaters, but the the world-wide jubilee (yes, you read me correctly, jubilee) of the The 6th installment of Harry Potter. I think I may go to the Tattered Cover's midnight release party in full costume! (ok, I probably won't, but it's probably out of lack of effort putting a costume together then fear of looking stupid). Until then I can re-read the "Order of the phoenix" so I can jump into the "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

I'm convinced that Harry will die by the seventh book. In the (some) original rendition of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain dies right after his mission is completed (see the Heinrich Zimmer version for full bloody details) Indeed it seems, almost all the "destined heros" in literature and mythology die. Joseph Campbell, the renowned mythologist, talked about this as the an end of a hero's purpose. "Wouldn't we all be so lucky", stated Campbell (if I remebering this right, It was a 6 hour interview with Bill Moyers)" to live full life, fufill our purpose, and the be remeberd for our bravery?"- altogether I think he meant a death to "hero consciences", then physical death. I'm amazed at how consitent J.K. Rowling in in borrowing and adapting myths and charaters from Literature. Look out, poor Harry, your time is near.

I wouldn't count on Harry dying, as there have been rumors (from Rowling) that she might continue the series beyond the planned installments. I also forsee Hermione and Ron getting naughty in the hidden room of neccessity (properly decked out with many cushions, a disco ball, and a full array of 1970's R&B albums) and her having to leave to give birth during their senior year. I also think Harry will turn out to be gay and start a relationship with Malfoy.

But I might be wrong.

I think you might be reading to much slash. Harry on Snape, Harry on Malfoy stories seems quite popular, but doubtful.
Hermione and Ron? Actully I think Nevell is going to become a much more complex and ass-kicking charachter , so perhaps Hermione and Nevell?
Rawling has repeatedly stated in interviews that she does not plan on continuing the saga past a seventh book. (Although some speculate, or hope, that she might start writing about Harry's parents and the war against he-who-must-not-be-named.
Incidently, When asked if Voldemort is Harry's father, J.K. also said "This isn't Star Wars".

Slash? Not a clue what that is. Not sure I want to know either. And seriously, Ron and Hermione . . . its gonna happen. I bed they kiss in the next book. And then she'll kiss that guy from Bulgaria. Then it will be a teenage angst decision, she'll bop both of them and end up marrying Ron's twin brothers.

Slash is when fan take charaters from book, movies, tv and write their own stories for them. Mostly they center around Star Trek and Sci-fi stuff, but it's branching out. It's often pretty erotic, so in the case of the hogwarts crowd, stories often begin: Harry Potter, just past his 18th birthday, look deep into the eyes of . . .

Perhaps Beaky, Ginny Weasly, Hermione, and Viola(from Slitherin)
could all become women together. Kate can teach the boys, the twins can teach them sleves. We can record this and sell it on our blogs

Hogwarts at Night: The untold alliances.
